To close our our season, DUALIS will team up with local folk musicians in a celebration of folk music in many forms. "Folk" has been a word used to describe music which is ingrained into the very backbone of a culture or society through years of tradition and transmission. COMMUNE is a way for us to explore the implications which different forms of folk music carry with them, and to gain an appreciation for how these traditions have grown and changed with time. The concert will feature Cyrillus Kreek's Psalms of David, a group of psalm-settings which are heavily based on Estonian folk music, as well as a collection of African American spirituals which tell the stories of our nation's difficult past. In addition to choral works, this concert will showcase modern Appalachian folk music artists, as well as early music specialists showcasing the folk music of the Medieval and Renaissance periods.
